365 Connect to Support Police Data Initiative Project with Sponsorship of Summerware Event in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA - 365 Connect, the award-winning online technology platform provider for the multifamily housing industry, announced today its participation at Operation Spark’s Summerware Event. The event, which takes place July 13 – 15, 2015 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Summerware is a 3-day “hackathon” utilizing open source data to support innovation between the citizens of New Orleans and New Orleans Police Department.

Part of the White House's Police Data Initiative, Summerware is where participants will learn how to use the City of New Orleans’ open data API, combined with the city’s pre-release policing data sets. Students and participants in Operation Spark will be challenged to consider how this data could be used to benefit their community through increased transparency around police work. “Beta testing” through early access to these new data sets will also serve to identify missing data elements that might make the information more relevant to residents – particularly younger generations being impacted by violence.

"We are excited to have 365 Connect participating at our Summerware Event,” said John Fraboni, CEO of Operation Spark. “This event is part of our coding boot camp, where we work with low-income Opportunity Youth between the ages of 16 to 24, to prepare them for the workforce. We work with forward-thinking tech firms to secure scholarships for these students. 365 Connect has not only stepped up to provide scholarships, but also to sponsor this 3-day event, which we see as mission critical in building community trust with our local law enforcement. Their participation and sponsorship of this event demonstrates their continuing commitment to the technology community and future of our city and its youth.”

365 Connect Founder and CEO Kerry W. Kirby stated, “365 Connect is excited to participate and sponsor this event that introduces Operation Spark’s students to working together under time constraints, and helps them understand the importance of utilizing open data to solve issues in our community. Operation Spark is fostering and inspiring our youth to engage in educational programs, which is the cornerstone to strengthening our community. We want our future innovators to know that we stand ready to support them, as they are a vital part of the new economy that is pushing our city forward.”

Operation Spark COO Max Gaudin, “This is a monumental event for our students and city. New Orleans is one of 21 communities currently participating in the Police Data Initiative Project. We are truly honored to have the support of 365 Connect. They are a local success story, rising from a local start-up to an internationally-recognized award-winning technology firm; a truly iconic company and champion of our local technology community.”
